One of the groooviest and most talented contemporary rumberos, Pedrito Martinez will perform at Mayne Stage FREE as part of Chicago’s World Music Festival.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Pedrito Martinez started his musical career at a young age with internationally renowned Cuban folkloric group Munequitos de Matanza. After relocating to New York, Martínez was a founding member of the highly successful, Afro-Cuban/Afro-Beat band Yerba Buena, and has played with the likes of Paquito D’Rivera, Eddie Palmieri, Bebo Valdés, and Sting.
The Pedrito Martinez Group has its roots planted firmly in the Afro-Cuban Rumba tradition and in the bata rhythms and vocal chants of the music of Yoruba and Santeria.
Ecos del Pacifico Afrocolombia (EPA) is a Chicago-based group formed in 2006 by Julio Cesar Montaño Montenegro and steeped in the Afro-Colombian music and dance traditions of the Pacific coast of Colombia.
