Chicano playwright Luis Alfaro has made his name putting modern twists on old classics. In Oedipus El Rey, a young Chicano ex-con sets out on a journey to be the king of the South Central LA gangland.
If you happen to travel to San Francisco, be sure to check out Alfaro’s Bruja, a retelling of Medea, in which Medea is taken from Mexico by Jason.
