OK. So this is one of the bands that is earning the distinction of being called cannibals. In this instance, it’s a good thing. (But why must we always be called savages?…answer provided here.) Chicha Libre “cannabilizes” western psychedelia, cumbia, Cuban and Colombian rhythms, national melodies and idiosyncratic inventions which were close in spirit to the Congolese rumba of Franco, and more. Oh, also, their album, Canabalismo, is due for release May 8 of this year. Another cannibal connection. We do it to ourselves.
But for real this Brooklyn-based, multinational band (featuring members of Si Sé and Combustible Edison) is delicious to listen to. Check out their musical stylings before you go see them in person:
