Puertorrican Arts Alliance presents “Loíza in Chicago,” a traveling exhibition that explores the West African and Spanish history of the Vejigante tradition of Puerto Rico. This colorful exhibition features the art making of Caribbean costumes and masks, accompanied by the sounds & rhythms of Afro-Caribbean drums and dances that are central to the annual carnival celebration in the coastal town of Loíza, Puerto Rico.
A FREE dance workshop will take place on the day of the exhibit’s opening (Aug. 15th) courtesy of AfriCaribe.
