3rd Year Anniversary of Dance Syndrome w/ Patafunk & Nuestro Tambo

Event Description

The 3rd anniversary of Dance Syndrome brings a sick dance party to Taxim on Sat., April 28. This is your chance to dance yourself clean to some cool new music: they’re spinning a mix of Latin Jazz, Samba, Bossa, Break Beats, Baile Funk, Salsa Dura, Batucada, Afro Beat, Disco, Cumbia, Reggae, Tropical Bass, NuCumbia, Boogalu, and so much more. This third year anniversary party will include  Patafunk, Nuestro Tambo and resident DJs Soulphonetics. No cover till 11pm | $5 after. 21+. 10pm-3am.

PATAFUNK–There’s probably no better way to describe the Caracas native, Brooklyn-based group Patafunk than a medley of ultra funkiness. Composed by the eclectic duo Carlos Martinez (Cem) and Susana Colina (Su), the pair sail onto a sonic adventure that begun behind turntables and is now fully equipped as a live band, using traditional rock instruments to the occasional ukelele and heavy, heavy synths. Though, the guys still hold their musical production artistry at speed.

NUESTRO TAMBO–a Chicago-based group that celebrates the AfroPuerto Rican traditions of Plena and Bomba. This group is unique in that it represents Bomba as a living musical form rather than a folkloric tradition. Nuestro Tambo is comprised of men and women in their twenties and thirties who have committed themselves to the promotion and celebration of these genres. They compose original songs, incorporate their urban experience through the use of elements such as rap, easily interchange instruments and singing and dancing spaces with one another, as all of the members are interdisciplinary artists. Nuestro Tambo has departed from what has become accepted as the traditional representation of Bomba music and has made this music more accessible to young urban dwellers more often drawn to the commercialized forms of Salsa, Hip Hop and Reggaeton.

SOULPHONETICS– a producer/dj collective formed by Christian Vera & Caswell James that work diligently to push the soulful sounds of House, Hip-Hop, Jazz and all forms of Afro-Latin & Electronic rythms into the fabric of social consciousness. They strongly believe that music is an essential element of daily life as is the nourishment of the mind, body and soul.
