The 9th annual 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios will take place October 15-16, 2011, as one of the premiere events of the citywide Chicago Artists Month. Extending from Western Ave. to Halsted (16th St. to 24th St.), the event will largely feature the work of artists residing in the Pilsen area, as well as other local, national, and international artists invited to exhibit at select galleries. Last year, over 4,000 people descended onto Pilsen to enjoy a celebration of art, culture and community. This year, over 75 artists will be showcasing their work in more than 35 studios, alternative spaces, and cafes.
The alternative spaces and galleries participating are: Casa de Cultura Calles y Sueños, Roxaboxen Exhibitions and Studios, Cobalt Studio, Yollocalli Arts Reach, Prospectus Gallery, Tonantzin, Carlos and Dominguez Fine Arts Gallery, Oxala Fine Arts and Colby Gallery.
Some of the cafes and restaurants also participating will be: Efebinas Cafe, Jumping Bean, Café Mestizo, Kristoppher’s Café and Bakery, De Colores Restaurant and Fogata Village showing local Pilsen artists.
